ZACZYN (LEAVENING) is an outcome of an artistic residency that in 2016 met 9 Brazilian and Polish artists that joined forces in shared choreographic practice. Following Yanka’s artistic interest, the starting point for movement research became vocabulary and narratives of oberek and samba de pé – Polish and Brazilian non-stylized traditional dances. At first glance totally different, when practiced and researched (also in ethno-choreographic perspective) they revealed a lot in common and inspired the exciting choreographic journey.

While questioning how traditional culture can feed contemporary choreography, the project favors process over final product staging a moment of meeting in shared practice. At the same time LEAVENING investigates and celebrates rooted in dance collectivity as well as ecstatic and transformative dimension of dance.

We meet in the practice. And we practice the meeting.
Repeating the gestures, we delve into the presence.
And transform the future.
We’re leavening.
